What's changed in WoW Forever

A summary of Blizzard's Class Deep Dive articles. They were published during the beta, so numbers and talents may differ in the live game.

Hunters keep their identity as ranged fighters with a trusted companion, with more flexibility. Pets are more distinct, and talents support pet-focused play, ranged precision, and trap or melee builds.[1]

Hunter as the developers describe it

Damage is a Hunter's only role, but solo and in small groups the pet can tank. Hunters have the longest range of any class, but their ranged abilities don't work in the dead zone within 8 yards of an enemy.

Baseline abilities

  • Aimed Shot is baseline for every Hunter at level 20, and it no longer shares a cooldown with Arcane Shot.
  • Traps can be used in combat. Their cooldown is now 30 seconds, and Frost and Fire traps have separate cooldowns.
  • Aspect of the Beast now also grants melee Attack Power.
  • Pets gain stats from your gear, but they can no longer receive player buffs that increase their stats.
  • Every pet family can learn Bite or Claw (some both) and Dive or Dash, and each family now has one ability of its own.
  • Foxes join as a new pet family. Their ability, Trickster's Dance, increases dodge chance and attack speed for 12 seconds.

Beast Mastery talents

  • Summon Hawk (16-point gold medal): deals instant damage and summons a Hawk that attacks your target for 18 seconds. You can have up to 2 Hawks at once.
  • Focused Fire (new talent): increases all damage you and your pet deal while your pet is active.
  • Deadly Aspects (formerly Improved Aspect of the Hawk): melee attacks can also increase your attack speed while Aspect of the Beast is active, supporting melee builds.
  • Thick Hide has been merged into Endurance Training, which now gives your pet both Health and Armor.

Marksmanship talents

  • Lone Wolf (11-point gold medal): 20% more damage with all attacks while you have no active pet.
  • Trueshot Aura moves up to the 21-point gold medal and gets new lower-level ranks.
  • Sniper Shot (31-point gold medal): a shot with a 4-second cast and 15-second cooldown that hits harder than Aimed Shot. It also increases the range of your next 3 Shots by 10 yards.
  • Careful Aim (new talent): increases melee and ranged Attack Power by up to 100% of your Intellect.

Survival talents

  • Counterattack moves up a row and becomes the 16-point gold medal.
  • Strider Kick (21-point gold medal): an instant weapon damage attack that also increases your movement speed by 30% for 3 seconds.
  • Lacerating Strikes (31-point gold medal): Mongoose Bite also makes the target Bleed over 21 seconds.
  • Wyvern Sting, Killer Instinct and Improved Feign Death have been combined into the new Resourcefulness talent, which lowers the mana cost of Traps and melee abilities.

For all classes

  • Talents start at level 10 and keep the familiar tree structure: one-point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, now joined by a new 16-point milestone.[2][1][3][4][5]
  • Key class buffs that used to come from talents, such as Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild, are now baseline for their classes.[1][5]
  • To change talents, including Legacy talents, visit a class trainer in a major city. Dual Specialization becomes available at level 40.[2][1][3][4][5]
  • These summaries are based on articles published during the beta, so numbers and talents may differ in the live game. This site's talent calculator uses the official live data.[2][1][3][4][5]
