New content

  • New race: the Skyborne

Also known as the shen'dorei, or “hidden people,” the Skyborne are a new playable elven race. At character creation you choose the Horde (Windshaper Skyborne) or the Alliance (High Order Skyborne). Creating one requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher upgrade.[9][10]

    Details
  • Six new race-class combinations

You can now create a Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock or Undead Paladin.[1][11]

    Details
  • Four new zones and 1,000+ quests

Zephras Isle, the Riverglades, Mount Hyjal and Shen'dralas join the world, and more than 1,000 new quests span the whole level 1–60 journey.[1][3]

    Details
  • Nine new five-player dungeons

From Hall of Thanes at level 13 to Shaper's Terrace at levels 58–60, new dungeons are spread across the whole leveling journey.[12]

    Details
  • Three raids

Barrow Deeps (10 players), Hyjal Summit (20 players) and Onyxia's Lair (40 players) open on December 9.[13]

    Details
  • New battleground: Darkspear Islands

A 15v15 capture-point battleground off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh for levels 30–60. The first team to 2,000 points wins.[14]

New zones

Four brand-new zones. Existing zones such as the Wetlands and Desolace also get new quests and rewards.

  • Zephras Isle

    Levels 1–12

The Skyborne starting zone: an elemental, skybound setting that blends classic Warcraft aesthetics with architecture inspired by Skywall.[1][3]

  • Riverglades

    Mid-30s to mid-40s

A new Eastern Kingdoms zone with more than 150 quests. Around Powderfuse Port you'll run into the Powderfuse goblins, the Twilight's Hammer and the Brotherhood of the Horse.[1][3]

  • Mount Hyjal

Explore the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat, journey through Darkwhisper Gorge and help shape the future of a recovering land.[1][4]

  • Shen'dralas

A long-hidden place between Mulgore and Desolace, tied to the Shen'dralar, Eldre'Thalas, Dire Maul and the centaur tribes of the region.[1][4]

Changed systems

Talents
The Classic structure and number of rows stay the same. Alongside the one-point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, there's a new 16-point milestone. Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild are now baseline for their classes.[15]
Combat
Tuned so a solo player takes roughly 10–15 seconds to defeat an ordinary creature. Hit and critical strike chance are shared across spells, melee and ranged, and spellcaster weapons now grant spell damage and healing.[15]
Legacy System
Account-wide horizontal progression. Each of the 65 Legacy Challenges (in six categories) earns one Legacy Point, and at launch each character can spend up to 16 points on perks in Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. Points are shared by your non-Hardcore characters.[16]
Camping
The Cooking profession's Basic Campfire becomes a campsite with vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs. Nearby players can each add one crafted Camp Feature, up to three per campfire.[17][15]
Professions
More than 600 new recipes, some of them dropped by dungeon bosses. Crafted food can grant a small experience bonus.[15][16]
PvP progression
Earn Honor to buy PvP gear and Rank Points to climb ranks 1 to 14. Rank 11 unlocks mounts and rank 14 epic weapons.[18]
Transmog
You can turn transmog off entirely; then you see everyone around you in their equipped gear. It starts off automatically if you choose the Classic preset.[15]
Experience Presets
On your first login you choose Classic (SD character models, classic screen layout) or Enhanced (HD character models, extra interface features). You can still change individual settings later under Options.[1][2]
Gamepad (beta)
XInput-compatible controllers are supported. Turn it on under Esc → Options → Gameplay → Gamepad; you'll still need a keyboard for chat.[8]

Rulesets instead of realms

There's no realm list: you pick a ruleset on your first login. At launch you can choose Normal, PvP, Roleplay, Roleplay PvP, and Hardcore arrives after launch.[6][2]

Character names

  • Character names have two parts: a main name and a secondary name. Only the full combination has to be unique within your region, so your main name can match someone else's.[21][10]
  • Turn off “My Secondary Name” under Options → Nameplates to hide it above your head. It still shows in chat.[21][10]
