What's changed in WoW Forever

A summary of Blizzard's Class Deep Dive articles. They were published during the beta, so numbers and talents may differ in the live game.

Totems and weapon imbues are quicker to manage mid-fight, so there's less repeated setup. Totem placement, timing and elemental utility stay at the core, and talents support spellcasting, melee, healing and hybrid play.[1]

Shaman as the developers describe it

Shaman use totems to buff, heal and solve problems, and Mail armor and a shield make them one of the sturdiest classes. But they lack effective crowd control, so allies have to make up for their weaknesses in control and survivability.

Baseline abilities

  • All totems now have a 1.0-second global cooldown, and totems that provide persistent buffs last 5 minutes.
  • A totem tracking UI shows your active totems and their remaining duration. Right-click a totem there to dismiss it instantly.
  • Call of the Elements (level 20) summons a preset of 4 totems, one per element, with a single 3-second cast. You get a second set at level 30 and a third at level 40.
  • Totemic Recall (level 20) destroys all your totems and refunds 25% of their mana cost. Totemic Projection (level 22) moves your totems to a new spot within 30 yards.
  • Weapon imbues now last 60 minutes and can be active alongside Sharpening Stones, Weightstones and Wizard Oil.
  • Fire Nova Totem is replaced by the Fire Nova spell, which erupts at the location of your current Fire Totem.
  • Windfury Totem and Flametongue Totem are now party-wide buffs, and Tranquil Air Totem has been removed.

Elemental Combat talents

  • Call of Thunder is now the 16-point gold medal and gives Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning 3% more critical strike chance.
  • Earthbound (21-point gold medal): Earthbind Totem instantly immobilizes nearby targets for 5 seconds when cast.
  • Lava Burst (31-point gold medal): a Fire spell with a 2.5-second cast and 10-second cooldown that deals 20% more damage to targets with your Flame Shock.
  • Elemental Mastery has been removed because it held the spec back in PvP balance. Elemental gets new spells and abilities instead.

Enhancement talents

  • Shamanistic Focus (11-point gold medal): greatly reduces the mana cost of Shocks and Lightning Shield.
  • Stormstrike moves up to the 16-point gold medal with an 8-second cooldown. It makes your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning or Earth Shock 20% stronger.
  • Maelstrom Weapon (new row 6 talent): melee attacks build charges that shorten the cast time of Lightning Bolt, until it becomes instant.
  • Rage of the Farseer (31-point gold medal): a personal 3-minute cooldown that increases your attack speed by 30% for 25 seconds.

Restoration talents

  • Water Shield (11-point gold medal): a shield with 3 globes that give you mana when you're hit or when one of your heals is a critical.
  • Mana Tide Totem moves from the 31-point to the 16-point gold medal.
  • Riptide (31-point gold medal): heals instantly and then over 15 seconds, and makes your Chain Heal 25% more effective on that target.
  • Totemic Focus moves to row 1 and also discounts Totemic Projection and the totem Call spells.

For all classes

  • Talents start at level 10 and keep the familiar tree structure: one-point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, now joined by a new 16-point milestone.[2][3][1][4][5]
  • Key class buffs that used to come from talents, such as Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild, are now baseline for their classes.[3][5]
  • To change talents, including Legacy talents, visit a class trainer in a major city. Dual Specialization becomes available at level 40.[2][3][1][4][5]
  • These summaries are based on articles published during the beta, so numbers and talents may differ in the live game. This site's talent calculator uses the official live data.[2][3][1][4][5]
