Warlock

Warlocks are the bane of all life. Empowered by demonic blood, they can inflict great torment upon their foes. To replenish the dreadful energy their spells expend, warlocks drain vitality from their victims. The warlock can also summon and control terrifying demonic entities. Still, warlocks are feared above all else for their singular wickedness and cruelty.

What's changed in WoW Forever

A summary of Blizzard's Class Deep Dive articles. They were published during the beta, so numbers and talents may differ in the live game.

Warlocks get new ways to command Shadow, Fire and demonic power. Damaging Curses split off as Banes, pets scale with their master's stats, and talents support damage over time and drains, deeper demon synergies, and Shadow and Fire combinations.[1]

Warlock as the developers describe it

Warlocks are still physically weak and depend on their demons for protection, but all three specializations now deal damage that can compete with any other spellcaster.

Baseline abilities

  • Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom are now Banes. Each Warlock can have only one Bane on a target.
  • Curse of the Elements now applies to all magic damage, and Curse of Shadows has been removed.
  • Firestone and Spellstone now apply weapon imbues that can be stacked with temporary enchantments like Wizard Oil.
  • Firestone grants more Fire damage and critical strike chance; Spellstone grants more Shadow damage and spell haste.
  • Drain Soul's chance to grant a Soul Shard rises with each tick until it's guaranteed.
  • Pets now scale with their summoner's stats.

Affliction talents

  • Curse of Exhaustion is now the 16-point gold medal and reduces movement speed by 30%.
  • Wrack (31-point gold medal): deals Shadow damage every second and increases the damage the target takes from your other Shadow damage-over-time effects by 10% for 6 seconds.
  • Pandemic (new row 3 talent): increases the critical strike damage bonus of Corruption, Drain Soul and other Affliction spells by up to 100%.
  • New talents Improved Drains and Soul Siphon strengthen Drain Life, Drain Soul and Wrack.

Demonology talents

  • Demonic Sacrifice is now the 11-point gold medal. Its effect lasts 2 hours, and the effect each demon gives has changed.
  • Fel Domination is now the 16-point gold medal and Soul Link the 21-point one.
  • Demonic Pact (31-point gold medal): summoning a different pet no longer cancels Demonic Sacrifice, so you can benefit from it and Master Demonologist at the same time.
  • New talents Demonic Brand and Demonic Knowledge empower you and your pet in new ways.

Destruction talents

  • Conflagrate moves from row 7 up to row 4 as the 16-point gold medal.
  • Bane of Havoc (21-point gold medal): for 5 minutes, 15% of the damage you deal to other targets is also dealt to the cursed target.
  • Incinerate (31-point gold medal): deals Fire damage, 25% more if the target has your Immolate. 2.5-second cast, 30-yard range.
  • Shadow and Flame (new row 6 talent): Conflagrate increases your Shadow damage and Shadowburn increases your Fire damage for 20 seconds.

For all classes

  • Talents start at level 10 and keep the familiar tree structure: one-point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, now joined by a new 16-point milestone.[2][3][4][1][5]
  • Key class buffs that used to come from talents, such as Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild, are now baseline for their classes.[3][5]
  • To change talents, including Legacy talents, visit a class trainer in a major city. Dual Specialization becomes available at level 40.[2][3][4][1][5]
  • These summaries are based on articles published during the beta, so numbers and talents may differ in the live game. This site's talent calculator uses the official live data.[2][3][4][1][5]
